Dr Andrew Fair
Dr Andrew Fair
Andrew Fair has been a Medical Practitioner working in General Practice for over 28 years. His special interests include paediatrics, preventative and early diagnostic medicine and the treatment of depressive illness in general practice. Andrew has also been a Minister of Religion for 15 years and currently is the Associate Minister/Head of Staff and Chairman at the Door of Hope Christian Church. Andrew’s other interests include leadership development in the not for profit, church and business sector. He also currently holds a number of Directorships and is the Chairman of two not for profit organisations.
Dr Jane Fuller
Dr Jane Fuller
Dr Fuller joined the practice in 1999. She enjoys all aspects of general practice and is particularly interested in geriatrics.
Dr Paul Hanson
Dr Paul Hanson
Dr Hanson has postgraduate training in a wide variety of presentations to general practice. He is competent in the full breadth of medical problems. He has an interest in training medical students and young doctors. He keeps fit by walking and riding a push bike.
Dr Felicity Wivell
Dr Felicity Wivell
Dr Wivell has worked in general practice in Launceston since 1988. She spent 3 years working in the UK. Her interests are women’s health and medical education.
Dr Toby Gardner
Dr Toby Gardner
Dr Gardner was raised and trained in Queensland, and spent a number of years working in rural Qld before relocating to Launceston in 2006 to raise his young family. He enjoys and works across all areas of Medicine, and is actively involved in the training and examining of young doctors at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level. He holds a part-time appointment with UTAS where he is involved in teaching Emergency Medicine, and outside work enjoys the wine, food and events that are unique to Tasmania.

Dr Stuart Guest
Dr Guest has worked in General Practice since 1989, mostly in Launceston. Special interests include dermatology and sports medicine. He is an accredited scuba examiner and a keen fisherman.
Dr Helen Parkes
Dr Helen Parkes
Dr Parkes graduated from Flinders University, S.A., in 1984 and has worked in 4 Australian states as a GP. She has been in Launceston since 1996.
Dr Andrew Hodson
Dr Andrew Hodson
Dr Hodson trained in Victoria and worked in emergency medicine, then rural general practice. In 1994, he moved to Tasmania and continued in general practice, as well as teaching at the UTAS School of Medicine.
Dr Graham Poole
Dr Graham Poole
Dr Poole has worked in general practice, obstetrics, paediatrics and refugee health in Tasmania and NSW, including Newstead Medical in 2011 and 2012. Between 2012 to 2016, he was Medical Director of a mission hospital for women and children in South Sudan. Special interests include the health of families, the care of refugees, the journey of faith and the challenge of marathons!

Dr Johanna Wilson
Dr Wilson graduated from UTAS in 2006 after studying at the three clinical schools (Hobart, Burnie and Launceston). Dr Wilson has previously worked at the LGH part time in a variety of areas and has been in General Practice since 2015.
Dr Georgia Bavin
Dr Georgia Bavin
Dr Georgia Bavin joined Newstead Medical in 2017. Georgia received her RACGP fellowship in 2020 and was awarded the RACGP Tasmania Examination Medal. She also has a Diploma in Child Health and an FPAA Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health. Georgia has a special interest in women’s health and the care of mothers and babies in the first year of life including infant sleep, feeding, unsettled behaviour, and maternal mental health. She follows a holistic evidenced-based approach termed Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC or the Possums programs) and is the first NDC accredited practitioner in Tasmania (see Services).

Dr Jason Jeffery
Dr Jeffery joined Newstead Medical in January 2019. He initially trained in the hospital system in Queensland before moving to Tasmania to pursue a career in General Practice. He enjoys the breadth of medicine that General Practice offers, as well as the outdoor pursuits easily accessible in Tasmania.

Dr Jane Dhann is a graduate of the University of Queensland and Griffith University. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She particularly enjoys caring for patients with difficulties in communication. In her spare time she enjoys traveling with her family, gardening and cooking.

Dr Beth Thompson
Dr Beth Thompson graduated from UTAS in 2016 and worked at the Launceston General Hospital prior to commencing in General Practice. Dr Thompson’s special interests include women’s health, paediatrics and adolescent health. Beth is currently on maternity leave, though we look forward to welcoming her back!

Dr Amy Leung was born in Northern Queensland and graduated from James Cook University in 2014. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners and enjoys all aspects of general practice. In her spare time she enjoys baking, hiking and travelling with her husband.
Dr Isabel Illingworth
Dr Isabel Illingworth
Dr Isabel Illingworth was born and raised in Launceston and studied her medical degree at the University of Tasmania. She worked at the Launceston General Hospital prior to commencing her GP training. She has completed further education gaining a Certificate of Women’s Health, Diploma of Child Health and National Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health. She has a particular interest in women’s and preventative health
Dr Edward Garrahy
Dr Edward Garrahy
Dr Edward Garrahy was born in Limerick, Ireland. He moved to Australia in 2015 and succumbed to Tasmania’s charms in 2019. He works part-time at the University of Tasmania where he is involved in teaching and research. Outside of work he enjoys reading, learning languages and playing soccer

Dr Nicola Kuhn
Dr Nicola Kuhn is originally from Germany and completed her medical degree at the WWU Münster. She moved to Tasmania in 2014 an has since been working in various areas at the Launceston General Hospital and completed a diploma in both, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and in Paediatrics. Outside of work she enjoys bushwalking, music and spending time with her young family.

Dr Emily Ingram completed her medical degree at the University of Tasmania. She enjoy all aspects of general practice and is also interested in research. Outside of work she enjoys running and bushwalking.
Dr Cameron McClure

Dr Cameron McClure is originally from Queensland where he completed his medical training at the University of Queensland. Dr McClure moved to Tasmania in 2016 and has since worked at the Launceston General Hospital Emergency Department. Dr McClure has additional qualifications and a special interest in emergency medicine.

Dr Sandra Newfield obtained her medical degree from the University of Sydney in 1983. She enjoys all aspects of general practice. She relocated to Launceston from NSW, with her husband, in early 2020. Outside medicine she enjoys walking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Sandra speaks Russian.

Dr Harshad Naik
Dr Naik moved from Mumbai, India to Australia in 2010 and has worked in various hospitals in Australia covering a broad range of specialities. He has also worked as a general practitioner in rural Victoria before moving to Launceston. He has a particular interest in skin cancer. Apart from medicine, Harshad enjoys watching cricket, Bollywood movies and going fishing.

Ian has had a 40 year career ranging across the business and not for profit sectors. A Chartered Accountant, he spent 30 years in public practice and then the next 10 as the CEO at St Giles. Ian is proud to now be able to help the team at Newstead Medical ensure that they continue to meet the needs of the community in the strongest ways possible.
Sue Brown
Sue Brown
Sue is a Speech and Language Pathologist who works with children and adults. She graduated from Lincoln Institute, Melbourne, with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) and has a Graduate Certificate of Education in Language and Literacy from UTAS.

Sue enjoys working with people who have challenges with communication, literacy and swallowing.

GENERAL MANAGER

Cassie joined our staff in 2004 and has over 20 years’ experience in the medical administration field. She enjoys working in a practice that encourages ongoing education and provides a supportive environment for the whole team.

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Emma joined our team in January 2008. She has completed a Diploma of Business and a Diploma of Human Resources, has over 10 years’ experience in the medical administration field and 15 years’ experience in the customer service industry.

Alison Gammon
Alison Gammon
CLINICAL NURSE COORDINATOR (RN)

Alison has been working at Newstead Medical since August 2009. She trained at UTAS and began her career as a theatre nurse at St Vincent’s Hospital. She has a young family that gives her so much joy. Her greatest enjoyment in General Practice is the privilege of talking with patients and listening to their stories; it’s a wonderful, fulfilling and rewarding job.

Sarah joined our team in 2017. She has almost 9 years’ experience in medical administration and 10 years’ experience in customer service. Sarah enjoys working in a team environment and loves helping people.
