Dr Andrew Fair
Dr Andrew Fair
Andrew Fair has been a Medical Practitioner working in General Practice for over 28 years. His special interests include paediatrics, preventative and early diagnostic medicine and the treatment of depressive illness in general practice. Andrew has also been a Minister of Religion for 15 years and currently is the Associate Minister/Head of Staff and Chairman at the Door of Hope Christian Church. Andrew’s other interests include leadership development in the not for profit, church and business sector. He also currently holds a number of Directorships and is the Chairman of two not for profit organisations.
Dr Toby Gardner
Dr Toby Gardner
Dr Gardner was raised and trained in Queensland, and spent a number of years working in rural Qld before relocating to Launceston in 2006 to raise his young family. He enjoys and works across all areas of Medicine, and is actively involved in the training and examining of young doctors at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level. He holds a 0.3 FTE appointment with UTAS where he is involved in teaching Emergency Medicine, and is the current Chair of RACGP Tasmania and a board director of the College. He is a graduate of the AICD and now splits his clinical time between Urgent Care and General Practice. Outside work he enjoys the wine, food and events that are unique to Tasmania.
Dr Daniel Kirk

Originally from Western Australia where he completed his medical degree at the University of Western Australia, Dr Kirk moved to Tasmania in 2018.
He has interests in oncology, lifestyle medicine and paediatrics. Outside of his work as a GP, he enjoys spending time with his family, running and playing cricket.
Dr Paul Hanson
Dr Paul Hanson
Dr Hanson has postgraduate training in a wide variety of presentations to general practice. He is competent in the full breadth of medical problems. He has an interest in training medical students and young doctors. He keeps fit by walking and riding a push bike.

Dr Hanson has retired from clinical practice though will be working very occasional shifts in General Practice and Urgent Care over the remainder of 2024.

Dr Verity Foulkes-Taylor
Dr Verity Foulkes-Taylor
Dr Foulkes-Taylor is originally from rural Western Australia, completed her undergraduate medical degree in WA at UWA, and then completed her initial years of training in WA and Port Macquarie before moving to Tasmania for GP training. Her areas of interest include women’s health and paediatrics, and she is a Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner. She currently has a research role with UTAS, and enjoys trail running, swimming, camping and gardening in her spare time.

Dr Parkes graduated from Flinders University, S.A., in 1984 and has worked in 4 Australian states as a GP. She has been in Launceston since 1996.
Dr Graham Poole
Dr Graham Poole
Dr Poole has worked in general practice, obstetrics, paediatrics and refugee health in Tasmania and NSW, including Newstead Medical in 2011 and 2012. Between 2012 to 2016, he was Medical Director of a mission hospital for women and children in South Sudan. Special interests include the health of families, the care of refugees, the journey of faith and the challenge of marathons!
Dr Jason Jeffery
Dr Jason Jeffery
Dr Jeffery joined Newstead Medical in January 2019. He initially trained in the hospital system in Queensland before moving to Tasmania to pursue a career in General Practice. He enjoys the breadth of medicine that General Practice offers, as well as the outdoor pursuits easily accessible in Tasmania.

Jason is currently on leave doing locum work in remote Australia and we look forward to his return.

Dr Cameron McClure

Dr McClure is originally from Brisbane where he completed his medical training at the University of Queensland. He moved to Tasmania in 2016 and completed his GP training at various practices whilst also working at the Launceston General Hospital Emergency Department.

Dr McClure has Extended Skills in Urgent Care Medicine. He holds an Emergency Medicine Certificate from the Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and is certified in Advanced Life Support (ALS2) and Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST).

Dr Jane Dhann is a graduate of the University of Queensland and Griffith University. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She particularly enjoys caring for patients with difficulties in communication. In her spare time she enjoys traveling with her family, gardening and cooking.

Dr Amy Leung was born in Northern Queensland and graduated from James Cook University in 2014. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, has a Diploma in Child Health and has completed a dermatology course through the Australian Institute of Dermatology. Amy enjoys all aspects of general practice, and in her spare time she enjoys baking, hiking and travelling with her husband.

Dr Samantha Cassidy is a UTAS Medical Graduate and completed her General Practitioner training locally in Northern Tasmania. In recent years she has been working at Scottsdale and has experience with on-call work in rural hospitals. She has a strong interest in dermatology and skin cancer, women’s health and paediatrics.

Dr Amanda Clifford is going to be working as a General Practitioner between Newstead Medical Centre and Kings Meadows Medical Centre. She completed her RACGP fellowship in 2018. She has a special interest in antenatal care, women’s health and paediatrics, mental health, but loves looking after everyone and is friendly in her approach, loves to have a chat and enjoys being able to see and get to know the family. Amanda is a mum to 3 young children and is often at the beach with them, her husband and family dog.
Dr Cormac Keane
Dr Cormac Keane
Dr Cormac Keane is a GP of over 20 years experience and has just relocated to Launceston with his young family from Sydney. Originally from Ireland, he trained in the UK before moving to Australia in 2013.

Cormac has extensive experience with a solid primary care background in semi-rural and suburban primary care. A generalist at heart, he has special interests in skin cancer and minor procedures, and chronic disease management (especially cardiovascular medicine).

Dr Meagan Campain relocated from rural NSW to Tasmania in 2021, after working for many years as a rural GP, in a GP practice and district hospital.

A graduate of the University of Sydney, she has most recently been working as a senior Emergency doctor in the Mersey hospital. She feels privileged to care for a variety of patients in all aspects of medicine, particularly paediatrics, women’s health and indigenous health. She enjoys helping people take steps toward a healthier life and is particularly interested in working with females in sport.

When not working, she is out adventuring, growing food and studying permaculture and sustainability.

Dr Ellie relocated from Queensland in 2023, having worked as a GP in Mackay for 4 years. Originally from Iran, she has been working as a General Practitioner since 2011, with a strong interest in cardiovascular and diabetes management, skin cancer, women’s health, paediatrics, mental health and chronic disease.

Ellie has been awarded an Advanced Clinical Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine & Surgery and Advanced Clinical Certificate of Dermatoscopy with the SCCA. She is in the final stages of her Diploma of Skin Cancer Surgery.

She relocated with her husband Schwann for the cooler climate, with a love of the outdoors including bushwalking, snorkeling and kayaking.

Dr David Abbott

Originally from Canada, Dr David Abbott completed his medical training in 2013 at the University of Queensland before moving to Launceston. Since then he has worked as a critical care doctor within emergency, intensive care, anaesthetics, and aeromedical retrieval. He has extensive procedural skills from this experience and has also taught at the UTas Launceston Clinical School in this space.

David initially commenced General Practice at Newstead in 2021 and we’re really excited that he has recently returned. He’s also working part-time as a doctor with Hospital in the Home.

Dr Tousif Syed
Tousif grew up in India and moved to Australia in 2015, working in Queensland for 4 years before moving to Tasmania with his family.

He has also worked in many hospitals across Australia over the past 7 years, though is most passionate about general practice for the variety and opportunity to provide holistic care.

Tousif is interested in skin, chronic medical illness, geriatric health and emergency medicine. When he’s not working, he keeps busy cooking, traveling, socialising with friends and enjoying family time as much as possible.

Dr Karinna Fyfe

After spending the last few years on the mainland completing her training, Dr Karinna Fyfe has returned home to Launceston after commencing working with us in 2018.

She is working Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at Newstead Medical and every Tuesday at our Kings Meadows Medical Centre. Karinna has an interest in paediatrics, women’s health, and is a keen runner, who races at an elite level.

Dr Rebekah Moore
Dr Rebekah Moore
Rebekah was born and raised in the Tamar Valley. She attended medical school at the University of Tasmania and has worked across all three major hospitals in the state since graduating in 2012. She has worked extensively in Emergency Medicine, including in far-north Queensland, which has given her a broad foundation. She is a proud Tasmanian and enjoys bushwalking, good food, and the company of friends and family.

Dr Moore is currently working at our Kings Meadows Medical practice.

Dr Felicity is originally from Scottsdale and grew up in Launceston. She completed her medical degree in Hobart at UTAS, and then completed her initial years of training at the LGH before moving to regional Victoria for GP training. Her areas of interest are broad and general, they include full range of family medicine, preventative health, women’s health and mental health.

She is excited to have recently moved back home after spending a year traveling around Australia and working in Aboriginal Health Services.

Dr Sandra Newfield recently returned to Launceston. Originally from NSW, she obtained her medical degree from the University of Sydney in 1983 and enjoys all aspects of general practice.

Sandra also speaks Russian, and will be working with us until June, then returning later in the year.

Dr Claire Jones is originally from Victoria where she obtained her Bachelor of Emergency Health from Monash University and worked as a paramedic while completing her medical degree with Oceania University of Medicine. After moving to Tasmania she has worked at the Launceston General Hospital before settling into General Practice. Outside of medicine she enjoys gardening and spending time with her family.
Dr Schwann Rad

Dr Rad relocated to Launceston from Mackay in 2023, having worked as a General Practitioner in his home country of Iran since 2010. He has extensive experience in managing substance use and mental health disorders, for which he has won several academic awards and been published widely. He also has experience working in Veteran’s health.

Dr Rad also has a strong interest in refugee health, chronic disease management and enjoys all aspects of general medicine. He joins Newstead Medical with his wife Ellie as they settle down to a cooler life in Launceston, with a love of gardening and the outdoors.

Philippa trained in Far North Queensland at James Cook University before undertaking her first few years as a doctor in Townsville University Hospital. She moved with her husband to Launceston in 2022 and has worked within the Launceston General Hospital as well as in Scottsdale with experience in on- call work in rural hospitals. She enjoys the broad nature and variety of general practice. While not at work, Philippa enjoys walking her Labradoodle, going to the beach and spending time with family.

Philippa is currently on maternity leave.

Dr Zeenath recently joined us at Newstead Medical, having worked in the Launceston General Hospital since 2020 with a special interest in Antenatal Medicine. She gained her primary degree in India in 2015 before relocating to Tasmania, and has achieved the RANZCGOG Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She enjoys the diversity that General Practice offers and is currently accepting new patients.

Originally from India, Dr Lakshmi has been working at the LGH across all disciplines since relocating to Tasmania in 2020. Prior to this she worked as a resident medical officer at the Townsville Hospital in Queensland between 2012 and 2016, before taking some time off to look after her young family. She has now settled in Tasmania and is looking forward to working with the team at Newstead Medical, and is accepting new patients.

Dr Shrima Shrestha has been working in various hospitals around Australia since 2017, and eventually relocated to Tasmania in 2018. Dr Shrima has previously been working in the Northwest coast of Tasmania and has now settled in Launceston. Dr Shrestha has a broad interest in all areas of family medicine and preventative health, and is accepting new patients.

Dr Win completed residency at the LGH and enjoys the independence of general practice. She maintains a variety of special interests including women’s health.

Following her graduation she attained a Master of Public Health in Melbourne, and outside of work she enjoys travelling and exploring new places.

Dr Maskey has over 10 years of clinical experience working in Nepal, the Tasmanian Department of Health and NSW Health. She has lived in Australia for 12 years and has lived in Launceston for 3 years. Dr Maskey is passionate about providing quality holistic and patient focused care and has a special interest in internal medicine.

Outside of medicine, Dr Maskey enjoys spending her time travelling and with her family and pets.

Dr Edier Loaiza Maya is originally from Colombia and completed his medical degree in 2013, relocating to Tasmania in 2022. Dr Maya has a strong interest in lifestyle medicine, chronic illness, and pharmacology.

Mel joined our team in 2019. She has completed a Diploma of Business Management and is currently completing a Bachelor of Business through UTAS, majoring in Management. Mel has previous experience with corporate health services, including drug and alcohol screening and has over ten years of experience in management. Outside of work Mel enjoys spending time with her young family.

When she is not at work she enjoys spending time with her family, horses and spending time in the garden.

Natalie started her nursing carer at the LGH. She has been working for Newstead Medical as the Clinical Nurse Manager since Dec 2020 before this she was the Clinical Coordinator at Kings Meadows Medical Centre. Natalie enjoys playing netball and riding dirt bikes in her spare time. Natalie loves working in General Practice as she loves the interaction with the patients and getting to know them and their stories.

Justin is a locally raised and University of Tasmania-trained Exercise Physiologist who has joined the team full-time as part of NewWorkHealth.

He is passionate about the benefits of exercise of any level in health, across a full spectrum of conditions, with particular interests in injury rehabilitation and cardiovascular conditions.

Outside of work he enjoys hockey and cricket, travel, and reading.
